Parent Teacher Conferences
Correction: In previous blogs I stated that the conferences were available to be booked, this was not the case. You will be able to book a conference time with me starting Saturday November 30, 2013.

CP Holiday Train
Don’t miss Grammy award winning singer Sarah McLachlan performing at the annual CP Holiday Train at Anderson Station on Saturday December 7, 2013. This free concert will also feature The Tenors and Matt Dusk.
In support of the Calgary Food Bank and hosted by Peter Mansbridge, the event begins with the opening of the North Pole Station at 4:00 p.m. followed by the concert, which begins at 5:00 p.m.
Explore the North Pole Station and its family-oriented activities including Santa, ice carving and hot chocolate before the show begins.
Attendees are encouraged to take Calgary Transit to this event as parking is limited. The event is free, however attendees are asked to make a donation or bring non-perishable food items for the Calgary Food Bank.

- The University of Calgary will be presenting the solar car this Thursday (tomorrow) afternoon.  Please sign the release form and return tomorrow so your child can be photographed with the car.

Gym: Low organizational games focusing on listening and cooperating.
Art: Painting Alberta Landscapes with a focus on foreground, horizon, and background.
Math: Creating 3-digit numbers from the numbers 7,2,5 and placing them in order from greatest to least
Language Arts: Listening to student readers and providing feedbackScience: Exploring CBE Library and recording in our jot notebooks, 3 new facts about plants.

Today's learning tasks: cooperative tag games, evacuation chat with Mrs. Traquair, writing about lockdown practices, working on multiplication and addition in Math, listening to Anabelle read aloud, taking jot notes for Science from a video on plants.

Did you notice the interesting date today,11/12/13?.
Tomorrow is our field trip to attend a performance by The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra! Busses will leave promptly at 9:15 so please ensure your child, and you too if you are volunteering, are on time to school. We will be returning back to the school at 11:45 - just in time for lunch! Please review trip expectations with your child as we are representing Vista Heights School. Students are to remain seated and quiet on the bus and are to listen intently to the performance. Students will eat their snacks when we arrive back at school.

Today we had the opportunity to explore a very good web site about Alberta for our lessons in Social Studies. Ask your child to show you this site.

We are collecting non-perishable food items for the Veteran's Food Bank this week! If you are able to, please support this cause and send non-perishable food items to school - thank you to those families who have already donated!

Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be tomorrow, Friday November 8, at 10:45. Please invite your family members to attend! We will be collecting donations for poppies on Friday morning - all students will receive a poppy to wear for the assembly. For those students in Cubs or Brownies, please remember to wear your uniforms.

We are still looking for volunteers to attend our field trip with us! If you have police clearance and are available to volunteer for the morning of November 13th, please indicate so on the field trip form or email me directly at cbjackman@cbe.ab.ca - Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all parents who returned the field trip forms so quickly! We are still waiting on a few forms so if you have not signed the field trip form please do so as soon as possible. We need all field trip forms in by Friday November 8. The field trip will take place on Wednesday November 13th in the morning.

Update from School Council


SUTP fundraiser update: we raised $850 which will be used to purchase new APPS for our iPods. Two families received “Toys R Us” gift cards for their incredible efforts to sell the most books.

Purdy’s Fundraiser is currently being held and due back by November 12th 
-delivery in the first week of December 
-prizes will be awarded to the top 2 sellers
-funds raised will be used for new gym and music equipment 


Reminder
- Veteran Food Bank donations are being collected all week. If you can, please help support our veterans by donating non-perishable food items.
- Digital Champion Club will run this Friday for Grade 3 students who have registered.

Field Trip
-Notice coming home today for a field trip to Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra on Wednesday November, 13, 2013. Please return forms by Friday November 8, 2013.
